While pediatricians now agree that barefoot is best for proper foot and muscular development, it is not always practical. Flexible soles are recommended because they are protective for indoor and outdoor wear, yet not restrictive. The soles of Smaller booties are made from soft suede, with non-slip rubber pads for traction. See Kai Run shoes incorporate a very flexible, yet durable rubber for the soles of our first walkers. Both allow plenty of freedom for developing little feet.

The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the premier organization of physicians and surgeons who specialize in foot and ankle health. Their Seal of Acceptance certifies that See Kai Run and Smaller footwear meet their rigorous standards for healthy foot development, functionality and safety. See Kai Run and Smaller uppers are made from buttery-soft leather with breathable leather lining. Only quality materials are used to ensure the soft, flexible, comfortable shoes that are ideal for your child's feet. What sizes are available? Smaller soft-soled booties come in sizes 0-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months, 12-18 months, and now 18-24 months beginning in August 2009. See Kai Run shoes are available in whole sizes 3 through 9 and are appropriate for pre and new walkers, as well as older toddlers up to 3 years old. Eleven shoes are available in sizes 9 through 3 and fit kids approximately ages 3 through 8 years old. Please note if a size is not currently available, it will not appear in the size option dropdown on the product page. How often should you measure your child's foot for the best fit? Children's feet grow quickly! Measure at least every two months during the first year, and every three months from 1- 3 years. You can never tell when your child will have a growth spurt.

How to Care for See Kai Run Shoes

See Kai Run shoes require a minimum of care. Made of high quality leather, they are naturally water resistant. For day to day cleaning, simply use a mild detergent and damp rag. Though not necessary, you may also use a water repellant spray to increase their water resistance. The owner's son, Kai, has put these shoes through the test – only like a two-year old boy can in rainy Seattle. They can say with confidence – their shoes hold up beautifully. Smaller soft-soled booties are ideal for indoor and light outdoor use. However, please note that the booties are not waterproof and should only be used in dry outdoor conditions. See Kai Run's sturdy yet flexible rubber soles allow kids to venture outdoors or stay inside. Eleven shoes are made with outdoor exploration in mind. Durable soles have superior traction for active kids. While shoes may hold up in the washing machine, we do not recommend this method for cleaning our shoes. The exterior of the leather shoes can be sprayed with a non-toxic water repellent for extra protection. To clean our shoes, use a little mild detergent and a damp cloth and allow to air dry.

Who Is Kai? Kai is the son of founders Cause Haun and Chen Gang. He's also the inspiration behind See Kai Run.

See Kai Run® is the idea of Seattle mom, Cause Haun. In 2004, she was on a quest for the perfect first shoe for her son, Kai. Unable to find shoes in fun, sophisticated styles that were suitable for outdoor play and still promoted the healthy development of little feet, she created her own line of shoes that satisfied all these needs.

In November 2004, See Kai Run shoes began arriving in specialty children's boutiques, mostly in the Seattle area. The response was phenomenal. Parents echoed what she knew all along—there was an unmet need for stylish outdoor baby shoes that had flexible soles.

In 2008, See Kai Run introduced its answer to the soft-soled baby bootie with the birth of Smaller®, giving parents another option for outfitting their little ones. Smaller combines the same quality materials and urban flair as its bigger counterpart, but with the unstructured softness of a bootie.

In 2011, See Kai Run once again expanded its footwear family by adding its own collection of organic socks. A perfect pairing with See Kai Run shoes, these socks capture a classic, fun feel and offer a healthy and comfortable fit as well.

Since the beginning, customers have clamored for larger sizes. Their request will be answered in the fall of 2011 with Kai™—bigger shoes for post-toddler to school-aged kids. Kai has the same beloved signature styling fans crave,but with the right amount of sturdiness and durability for kids on the go. Now little ones can truly grow up with See Kai Run.

All of See Kai Run's shoes meet the American Podiatric Medical Association's rigorous standards for foot health and functionality and have been awarded the APMA's prestigious Seal of Acceptance.

Since its inception, See Kai Run has seen sales expand from a few local boutiques, to retailers all around the country and worldwide.

The global efforts of Soles4Souls , the international charity dedicated to providing footwear to disadvantaged people around the world, target orphanages throughout Central and South America, Europe and Africa. In addition, the Soles4Souls team has used the gift of shoes in the relief efforts for the 2004 Asian tsunami, hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and recent Haitian and Chilean earthquakes. Since its founding in 2004, Soles4Souls has distributed over 8 million pairs of shoes to children and adults worldwide.
